A seahorse diary

Where to buy your tank-bred seahorses

Eventually this page will be unnecessary when all trade in wild-caught seahorses ceases.  But for now, it seems for every one tank-bred seahorse sold, there are at least two sold that are wild-caught.  This is particularly true of the dwarf seahorse.

Another danger is that many wild-caught seahorses are now acclimated to tank life and then sold as "tank raised," at much lower prices than actual tank-bred seahorses command.  This is not only unethical, but there is always the danger that a wild-caught seahorse that has been trained to eat frozen food, may become untrained at any time.

This is something for the seahorse purchaser to look out for.  If the price is low, be suspicious!

This page will be under construction for some time.  When finished, I hope that it will be the most complete resource around for locating vendors of tank-bred seahorses of various kinds.  Please check back here frequently in the coming months.
